 Highlights

  • The Kafue is still relatively undeveloped, Busanga and Lunga are both truly remote seasonal camps - they've become firm favourites of ours, they're quite simply the the best in the Park
  • The Kafue is regarded as Africa's best spot for antelope - this safari focuses on the best of the northern sector of the Kafue.  It's an area well recognized for finding predators and is a birding enthusiast's favourite.
  • Unusual species such as oribi, sitatunga, roan antelope and Lichenstein’s hartebeest along with the now rare cheetah and an abundance of plains game – wildebeest, puku and lechwe whom attract a high concentration of lions.
  • Close encounters are common with the Kafue lions that are well habituated. A very special feature is the fact the Busanga lions are tree climbers and seeing a whole pride up a giant fig tree is not uncommon.
  • A helicopter is used for the transfers between the Kafue and Lusaka
  • Night drives are conducted on this trip, a well reputed competitor of ours regards the Lufupa as the best spot in Africa for spotting leopard - we agree that chances are very good on this safari!

Best time of the year

This safari runs has a short season from June to early November only
Game concentrations are at their peak during September and October, birding is best at the beginning or end of the season - bear in mind that it's getting very hot just before the rains arrive in November

Cost:Due to the current economic climate with daily fluctuating rates, please contact us for a tailor made quote for 2010-2011. Our long term close relationship with our core suppliers, has enabled us to negotiate special rates on many of our trips and we can therefore pass these savings on to you.

Best Access

  • Access is best via charter aircraft from Livingstone, Lusaka, Mfuwe or Jeki - this safari is currently priced with return flights in and out of Lusaka.  Speak to us about how best to stitch together other connections.
  • Although quite feasible at the peak of the dry season we don't recommend any drive in transfers

Tips and notes

  • Geographically the Kafue is an ideal stop over in combination with the Luangwa, lower Zambezi and Victoria Falls hubs
  • Any light aircraft transfers have a strict baggage limit of 12kg in soft bags
  • Speak to us about seasonal specials that either combine the Kafue, Luangwa and lower Zambezi
  • This safari can be started on any day of the week
