The Malawi Land and Lake Safari

A 7 night special for 2010 combining game-viewing in Liwonde National Park with beautiful Kaya Mawa on Lake Malawi's stunning Likoma Island

This package provides a unique opportunity of experiencing scenic game-viewing in Malawi's Liwonde National Park with the natural beauty of Lake Malawi's Likoma Island.  It provides full board accommodation and various recreational activities for guests at both destinations.

Liwonde National Park has been considered one of Africa's best birding destinations and offers scenic game-viewing in stunning riverine surroundings.  A stay for 3 nights at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge provides the opportunity to experience a wide range of game including large numbers of sable antelope, hippo, impala, waterbuck crocodiles and serval.

Quiet, remote and absolutelty stunning, Kaya Mawa is a place truly unique in character on the southern tip of Likoma Island.  Seven stone and teak framed thatched en-suite cottages will be home to guests for the remaining 4 nights of the trip. 

Scattered with hundreds of huge baobab trees and white sandy beaches, and with a variety of activities available at Kaya Mawa, Likoma Island will be appreciated by the whole family.  

Itinerary:

Day 1: Guests greeted in Lilongwe and transported by 4 hour road transfer to Mvuu Wilderness Lodge in Malawi's Liwonde National Park.  Full board accommodation at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge.

Days 2 and 3: Both days and nights staying at Mvuu Wilderness Lodge.  Multitude of activities available including game drives, boat safaris, walking safaris, swimming or just relaxation in the bush

Day 4: Guests transported to Lilongwe and transferred by light aircraft for approximately 45 minutes to Likoma Island in Lake Malawi.  Taken to Kaya Mawa where guests stay in 7 en-suite stone and teak framed thatched cottages.

Each cottage at Kaya Mawa is accompanied by a private terrace with direct access to the Lakeside, and some cottages can only be reached by walkways that are built over the lake.  The accommodation at Kaya Mawa is also on a Full Board basis.

Days 5,6 and 7: Each day spent exploring Kawa Mawa and the surrounding area.  Various optional activities available:

  • Cycling around the island
  • Snorkelling
  • Diving
  • Swimming
  • Visits to the old Cathedral
  • Pure rest and relaxation!

Day 8: Depart Kaya Mawa on light aircraft for 45 minute return flight to Lilongwe for connections.  (see notes below departure tax).

Due to the current economic climate with daily fluctuating rates, please contact us for a tailor made quote for 2010 -2011.  Our long term close relationship with our core suppliers, has enabled us to negotiate special rates on many of our trips and we can therefore pass these savings on to you.

Children under 12 are charged at 50% of the normal per person sharing rate.

Includes: All road and light aircraft transfers throughout the trip.  All meals and game activities at Mvuu Lodge.  All meals and non-motorized water sports at Kaya Mawa. 

Excludes: Guests will be required to pay for drinks, park entry fees of US$POA per person per day, and the international departure tax of US$POA  required upon leaving Malawi.
