North Luangwa National Park
- One of Africa’s most remote regions
- Fantastic wilderness atmosphere
The North Luangwa is situated in the north of the beautiful Luangwa Valley, in the region’s most pristine and wild corner.
Most of the area is part of the protected North Luangwa National Park and is completely pristine and underdeveloped, with a lack of roads or major infrastructure. The public cannot enter the park unless they are the guests of one of the only three tour operators that have been granted permission to run lodges and tours here, ensuring an atmosphere of total exclusivity and seclusion.
The North Luangwa National Park is about half the size of the southern park, but has the same wildlife and birdlife. It is known for huge buffalo herds and large lion prides and a walking safari here is rated as an unparalleled wilderness experience.
It was here that scientists, Mark and Delia Owens, came to research and write two books about wildlife and conservation in the North Luangwa, thereby drawing attention to poaching problems and the need to conserve this magnificent wilderness area.
Special features include:
- No permanent lodges
- Large buffalo herds
- Walking safaris where you meet no other tourists
