North Island
- Pristine and paradisiacal tropical island
- Ecological gem
Situated seven kilometers north of the main island of Mahe, North Island is a completely pristine and unspoilt environment. The island is the most northerly of the granite islands in the Seychelles archipelago and is about 2km long by 1km wide.
The island is now part of a huge undertaking to eradicate all alien fauna and flora and then repopulating rare and endangered species from other parts of the Seychelles. There are three main beaches on the island with extensive coral reefs all round, some of them containing highly endangered coral species.
To help fund this enterprise, an exclusive eco-tourism venture has been launched on the island: a 20-bed villas offering luxurious, understated accommodation and superb island activities.
Special features include:
- Water sport
The Seychelles is a prime water sport destination – especially for scuba diving, as well as snorkelling. The coral reefs surrounding the islands are home to over 900 species of fish and 100 different kinds of coral. The visibility is excellent, making for fantastic underwater photography. Game fishing is a popular activity and the area has recently been described as offering probably the best saltwater fly fishing in the world. Spearfishing is forbidden
