Kigali
- Rwanda's colourful capital city
- 3 hours drive from Rwandan tourist attractions
- Bustling craft market
The capital of Rwanda and located at the country’s geographical heart, Kigali is Rwanda’s most important business centre and the main port of entry through its efficient international airport.
Kigali, a lush garden city, attractively sprawls over a range of slopes in the very heart of the ‘Land of a Thousand Hiils’, and boasts a range of hotels to suit the tastes and budgets of most travellers, and a selection of restaurants serving cuisine from around the world. The city is also easily connected to neighbouring Uganda and Burundi by fully surfaced roads.
Kigali, despite concessions to modernity, retains a satisfying and unpretentious low-rise charm. Its compact city centre surrounds a busy colourful market with souvenir stalls displaying fine local craftsmanship, while tree lined avenues wind through the surrounding suburbs.
Most importantly, Kigali is safe, and overwhelmingly friendly and enjoys a temperate high-altitude climate which belies its tropical location and appearance. Its central location in the heart of the country, means visitors to Kigali are within three hours of most of Rwanda’s tourist sites.
The markets, handicraft shops and genocide memorials are some of the main places of interest in Kigali.
