The Great Rift Valley
A natural phenomenon stretching from the Middle East to Mozambique. Natural features such as Lakes Albert, Edward and Tanganyika, Rwanda’s Virunga-Rwenzori Mountains, and Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, which are both home to the endangered mountain gorilla, are all features of the Great Rift Valley
 
Akagera National Park
Rwanda's answer to the famous savannah reserves of east and southern Africa, Akagera National Park is a surprise after the steep and cultivated terrain that characterises the rest of the country.
 
Nyungwe Forest National Park
Extending for over 970km2 in mountainous southwest Rwanda, Nyungwe Forest National Park protects the largest single track of montane forest remaining anywhere in east or central Africa and exists as a rich biosystem of mammals, birds, insects and plant species.
 
Volcanoes National Park
Protecting the Rwandan sector of the Virungas Volcanoes on the border with Uganda and the DRC, the Volcanoes National Park is home to half of the remaining surviving mountain gorillas in the region and the elusive Golden Monkey.
 
Kigali
The capital of Rwanda and located at the country’s geographical heart, Kigali is Rwanda’s most important business centre and the main port of entry through its efficient international airport.
 
Lake Kivu
The 2,650 square kilometre freshwater Lake Kivu is set amid the dramatic mountains of the Virunga Volcanoes to the north and the steep terraced hills that are characteristic of rural Rwanda.
 

Virunga Lodge
