Health Requirements:
Visitors are often expected to pay cash for any treatment that they may need.  It is strongly advised to get adequate medical insurance before coming to Zimbabwe and to bring with you any prescription medication that you may require during your trip.

  • Malaria: Visitors to Zimbabwe need to take precautions as this disease is prevalent throughout the country, except for in Harare.  Malaria is spread by bites from infected mosquitoes, so make sure to use lots of insect repellent and to wear long-sleeved clothes and pants, especially after dark when the mozzies are most active.  Sleep in a room with a bed net or mosquito proofing.  Also speak to your doctor/pharmacist about appropriate prophylactics. Anti-malarials are not 100% effective so your best recourse is to ensure that you are always covered in insect repellent
  • Vaccinations: If you are coming from a yellow fever or cholera infected area, you will be required to be vaccinated against these diseases and to get a valid International Certificate of Vaccination.  Your doctor may recommend a tetanus immunisation.  Bilharzia may be present in dams and rivers, so use caution when swimming and avoid still, non-flowing water.  Your doctor may also recommend immunization against Hepatitis A or B, Typhoid and Tetanus.  For the latest information about vaccinations that you may need before departure, consult your local physician.
  • Tickbite fever: Which you can get from infected ticks, can be avoided by wearing pants and socks when out in the bush and covering up with insect repellent
  • Sunburn: Even in winter, it is imperative that visitors make provision for the sun by bringing hats, sun lotions, lip balm and sun block. Especially those visitors who will be on or near water should be careful, i.e. those on a river or canoe safari, white water rafting or swimming. Even those with a darker complexion are in danger of getting burnt if they do not take precautions

Entry Requirements:
It would be best to check with your nearest Zimbabwean Consulate about the latest requirements for travellers coming to Zimbabwe.
