Q: How safe is Botswana?
A: Botswana is one of the safest countries in Africa, as a result of an extremely stable democracy and economy. Many international companies even deem it the most reliable investment country in Africa. The crime rate is relatively low, but tourists are advised to use practical common sense by locking away their valuables, locking their car and hotel doors and by not going wandering about alone at night.

Q: When is the best time to visit the Okavango Delta?
A:
August is regarded as the most beautiful month to visit as the clear, golden water is at its deepest. It can be extremely uncomfortable during the summer months (December to March) when the weather becomes very hot and humid, therefore most visitors prefer cooler winter months. This is also the best time for game-viewing, as it is the dry season which forces animals to drink from more easily spotted waterholes. Generally speaking, most animals congregate in the area between April and November. Between November and December, the animals give birth to their young and to observe this happening in nature is a wonderful experience. January to March are the best months for birdwatchers.

Q: Where is the best place to see wild animals?
A:
Arguably Botswana’s best game park, Chobe National Park stretches over 11,700kmē of floodplains, woodlands and savanna. It is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino) as well as of the largest elephant herds in the world. It is also a great bird-watching destination with over 400 recorded bird species in the area.

Q: What is the road and infrastructure like in Botswana?
A:
Botswana has a good network of roads, especially those between major cities and across country. However, once driving out to further reaches of the country, roads become more challenging and a 4x4 vehicle is necessary. In most game parks, a four-wheel drive is essential.

Q: What else is there to see apart from the Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park?
A:
There are a whole host of attractions in Botswana that many tourists are not aware of – like the Mkgadikgadi Pans which are of the largest salt pans in the world. After the rains, these pans are flooded with water, drawing huge flocks of birds. There is also the Tsodilo Hills, the highest point in the country and a place of great spiritual significance – as well as being home to over 4,000 San rock-art sites.
