Linyanti & Savuti
- Beautiful wilderness areas in Chobe National Park
- Wildlife heaven
- Fascinating geological formations
Within the world-famous Chobe National Park, lie two areas of particular beauty and game viewing appeal – the Linyanti Swamps and the Savuti Channel.
The Savuti Channel is situated on the western part of the Okavango Delta and is well-known in its own right as a game viewing mecca. It stretches over an area of 10 878km² and consists of savanna, marshes, rocky outcrops and a remarkable channel with a history of drying up and flooding at unexpected times. It lies within the Madabe Depression, the remnants of an ancient lake that has since evaporated.
The Linyanti Swamps are found towards the west of Savuti and are situated in the private Linyanti Game Reserve. As not as many tourists know about Linyanti, the area is still very much unspoilt and it is possible to visit the park without meeting crowds of people. Both Linyanti and Savuti are known for incredible natural beauty and amazing game viewing at the right times of year – usually after the rains.
Special features include:
- Spectacular game viewing – especially of predators like lion and spotted hyena
- 300 resident bird species – increasing dramatically after the rains
- Rock paintings by ancient San Bushmen
- Wilderness atmosphere – especially in Linyanti, as the area is less known but just as remarkable
