In the Anglo Zulu War of 1879 two famous battles took place: Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift. Survivors from Isandlwana crossed the Buffalo River at a place named "The Fugitive's Drift", and this is where the stunning Fugitives' Drift Lodge has been established in order to allow visitors to the country the chance to savour the extraordinary history of the area.

With a beautiful garden home to many types of birds and a large swimming pool on the lip of the Buffalo River Gorge, this traditional lodge has stunning views of the river and the plain with an outside eating area at the Guest House to make the most of the natural beauty.

The rooms are covered in fascinating memorabilia from the war, and the decoration is a fusion of home and modern flavours, giving a unique atmosphere which can be savoured in the comfortable sitting rooms at the lodge and the Guest House, or from your verandah.

The outside eating area at the Guest House has a stunning view across the plains, with Isandlwana in the distance, whilst there is a dining room at both the Lodge and the Guest House.
