Hugging the banks of Lake St. Lucia, this twelve bed luxury lodge is the only privately owned lodge set within South Africa's Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site and Africa's largest natural estuary.

The six rooms at Makakatana are each privately situated in the natural forest, and are all equipped with air conditioning, heating, minibars, and en-suite bathroom and toilet facilities. Each can also boast a private deck.

The main lodge has a communal lounge, dining room and bar, with most meals being served out doors on candle lit decks or in the boma around the fire.

Lake St Lucia supports 367 bird species of which there are only a few places in Africa that support such a concentration of birdlife. Guests have the opportunity to experience the captivating wetlands seeking out hippos and crocodiles or a visit to the world famous Big 5 Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Game Reserve.

The expanse of unspoilt beaches, estuary and wilderness reserves surrounding Makakatana Bay Lodge are proving to be an undeniable attraction to lovers of wildlife.
