Giraffe Manor
Accommodation

- Stunning views
Giraffe Manor was built in 1932 by the late Sir David Duncan and is situated on a 140-acre estate just a few miles from the centre of the Kenyan capital Nairobi.
The manor offers the perfect private retreat with a superb blend of warm accommodation, highly qualified staff and one of Nairobi’s finest kitchens.
In 1974, Giraffe Manor was acquired by Betty Leslie-Melville and her husband Jock, who also founded the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW). Together they moved five babies of the highly endangered Rothschild giraffe to their property and it was this from which the property got its name. Later, following the death of her husband, Betty decided to open the house to visitors.
Today, the Giraffe Manor is owned and successfully operated by Rick and Bryony Anderson and their highly qualified staff and offers graceful living with the more refined comforts of today.
Accommodation at Giraffe Manor consists of five double bedrooms and a suite, immaculately furnished with 4 poster beds, antique furnishings and stunning art deco bathrooms. Two of the rooms can be easily converted to family suites. The Karen Blixen Suite is larger than the other rooms and has a double bed and two single beds.
The original furniture from Karen Blixen’s guestroom can be found in one of the main bedrooms, where the walls are also adorned with wildlife paintings by her famous cook, Kamante.
The 140-acre grounds are home to the famous Rothschild Giraffe, remarkably tame Warthog, Duiker and Bushbuck, elusive Leopard and more than 170 species of bird with views over the distinctive peaks of Blixen’s beloved Ngong Hills.
Giraffe Manor has attracted a long list of famous faces including Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall to Brooke Shields, Johnny Carson and Rickard Chamberlain.
